Default Public Venues ABOVE the barrage.

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for one or two public spots to go and give a try with a newbie friend who lives in the area. No need to divulge secret spots

    Suggestions ?

From what I can find the most popular spots are:
    Abrahamsrust Resort (0169712222)
Emerald Safari Resort and Casino (0169828000)
Emfuleni Caravan Park. Apparently all of these have launching sites, but Emerald does not allow day visitors. Hope your buddy has a boat.
There are plenty guesthouses, hotels and resorts along the Gauteng side of the river. Drive along there - you'll find a spot.

You can try and go to Rapid Paradice (I think that’s what its called) just below the Vaal dam (Franko 083 457 4468).

There's not a huge amount of water to fish but the nice thing is with the rest of the Vaal doing 170 cubes a second its only about 14 cubes up there.

Drive to Deneysville and take the R549 over the river. Just before you cross the river there is a turnoff to the left.

Not the best venue in the world but always a nice default when the rest of the river is going crazy with the flows.

PS don’t know if its just me but the yellows there seem to be a little “greener” than in the dome area.
