Tried to do a recce mission yesterday morning to a new stretch of water deep in the Vredefort Dome area that looked very promising on GE. Alas, upon reaching the stretch I was gonna recon, my eyes caught some white stuff floating on the surface.....As I came closer I realised that what I stumbled upon was a gill net!!! About 40m long, stretching from one bank to the opposite. With my knife I cut it in half and pulled one side, then the next and loaded the whole lot into the boat. I found 3x Muddies trapped and one SM. All were caught recently from the evidence at hand. I released all of them! What a disappointment I didn't even set up my rod I was so demoted....

started fishing from midday, work held me back more than anticipated. wind was pumping, cloudy, water clarity poor, water temp averaged from 12 to 13 degrees, no insect life even in the late afternoon when the wind died off. only foul hooked two muddies while nymphing in water depths ranging from 1m to 1,5m. did a fair bit of streamer work, caught everything in the water except fish and the dry fly didnt even touch the water. other than the poor results it was nice to be floating on the water.
