    Default Hunterski

I bought myself one of these (http://www.hunterski.co.za) kayaks for fishing at the coast.
Will it work on the Vaal for yellows?

It's a nice design I looked at them a while back, the drawbacks however:

Rigid bases are generally a bad idea on the Vaal.
Sitting so low in the water will hamper distance casting.
Not having a high vantage point will negatively affect your ability to spot fish.

    My R0.02, YMMV.

Agreed, but if you want to move from rapid to rapid in the summer over a nice long drift - you'll get there pretty quickly in one of these.

    They handle fast water well.

They do make a bit more noise when they bump rocks and I personally wouldn't be to keen on one in winter.

Yip, no mistake on that one, they generally have much less drag than an Ark or any of the other inflatabes and moving around is a dream because they're so narrow.

My main deterrent would be not being able to stand up in it, or rather, standing on a very risky base (much more so than standing on the pontoons of an Ark) and the noise factor, bump a rock, watch the LargeMouth (and everything else) dissapear.

Another friend of a friend fishes from one of these, he typically rows, finds his rock, gets out, fishes, rows again, fishes and repeat.

    Just spoke to the manufacturer.
They are priced quite reasonably. The standard one comes with rod holders and a few extra bits and bobs.

They are based in Fourways and he reckons Joe public is more than welcome to visit and inspect the kayak in more detail.
