    Default Soft Hackle Bugger

    Hook:Mustad C51 Streamer size 2
    Thread:14/0 Black
    Lead:0.030inch Lead Wire
    Tail Guard:4.5Kg Mono
    Tail:Black over Olive Marabou
    Flash:Rootbeer Crystal Flash
    Underbody:Black Hare's Ear dubbing
    Body:Olive Hare's Ear dubbing
    1st Hackle:Grizzly
2nd Hackle: Dark Brown or Black.(I used Dark brown here)

    Step1
Add lead wire to the thorax part and do 7-8 turns.Add some glue to secure.Once you're done here, tie in the mono guard

    Step 2
Tie in the tip of an olive marabou feather for the tail. The tail should be about as long as the hook.

    Step 3
Tie in the tip of a black marabou feather directly on top of the olive feather. This feather should be slightly longer than the olive.

    Step 4
Tie in two strands of flash on the far side and the near side of the marabou tail.

    Step 5
Form a dubbing loop and add the Black Hare's Ear to it,move ur tying thread forward to the eye.Wrap the loop forward to the eye, secure the loop and move the tying thread back to where u formed the dubbing loop.

    Step 6
Tie in the Grizzly hackle by it's tips and let the feather hang to the left.Look how easy and conveniently it lays between the spring.A great feature by Peak.

    Step 7
Add some olive dubbing to ur thread and wrap it forward over the black dubbing till u reach the beginning of the lead wire u tied in earlier.

    Step 8
Using ur Hackle pliers wrap the feather(dull side of the feather should face to the left) forward over the olive dubbing till u reach the black dubbing.Secure with thread and clip the excess off.Remember to release some of the feathers that could've been trapped before moving to the next step.

    Step 9
Tie in a slightly longer dark brown hackle by it's tips.Again dull side facing to ur left and wrap it forward to the hook eye.Hold it in place and move the thread forward through the feather.Ur thread will act as the ribbing to secure the feather nicely.Whip finish and tie off.Remove any feathers that could've been trapped.Add some glue to the head. The fly is now finished.Remember to debarb the hook as well.

    HI Gerrit,

Good S.B.S. of this fly. One can also strip the one side off each hackle to give a more sparse effect making the fly more transparent. Love it.

Nice pattern and SBS Gerrit, well done.

Just remember, the fly when wet, never looks like that when it's submerged in the water. Better way to check, is submerge it in a glass of water, and take a pic while it's still underwater. That gives you a good idea of what the fly will look like in the water.

    regards

    HI Mike,

This is true, when static or sinking it keeps it dry look, but also takes on the wet effect on each retrieve giving a pulsating effect.

    Hi GERRIT,

Mike and many forumers in a way are correct. Depends on the flies and materials that are used. Bucktail and calftail and a lot of synthetic fabrics are stiffer and thus need more detailed shape to be incorporated into the tying sequence. But when using furs and feathers it differs somewhat. This the guys through trial and error will learn, and fast. Stiffer materials, sparser tying . Softer, more movement. Even more so tied sparsely.
