Very nice fly, but doesn't the rubber perish quite fast?

In my experience I find elastic bands to perish quite quickly - even faster if they are stretched. I have a couple on my net handle into which I tuck the net so that it doesn't hang loose. They need replacing quite often.

I guess if you tie it and fish it for a season it should be fine, but I don't know if it will store for too long.

If you are going to use a rubber, lubricate it.

The rubber does perish, especially with frequent use. Best thing to do is to keep it in the dark and to rub some petroleum jelly on it after tying. I've had rekkie caddises that have lasted a full season this way.

My contribution:

After tying in the rubber band, take a marker and run it along the back edge of the rubber band, this will enhance the look of the segments very nicely.

Gerrit, to fight the perish problem, try and ty those with strips from a surgical glove. Fould the strips double to create nice segments. That rubber (latex) does not perish so quickly as the rekkie would and you dont have to treat it with KY!!!
