Like a kid before christmas. Tomorrow morning at 10h00 my line will be hitting the water.

Lets hope the second trip is as successful as the first.

Just chatted to my old man who has just got of the Orange below Augrabies. The water is looking good, the spawn is in full on madness. Apparently the muddies are ending up dried out on the banks they are so thick. Tough fishing though, probably spawn lock jaw and a big cold front lead to the difficulties.

Yeah, the viz I heard was great - but I think the cold front must have made things a bit more difficult.

I could do with 10 days along that stretch of the river at the moment.
One of my favourite places in the world.
Add the fishing and it is probably my favourite place in the world.

Hope you have a jol and let us know how it goes. We are up to the Richters in 2 weeks time. Conditions could make for a fun trip, but then again they always are.

    Default Potjiespram Report & Pictures

This year we based our camp at Poitjiespram in the Richtersveld National park. When we arrived, only campsite C was open, so that's what we took. As it turned out, it was fantastic. Once we found the way through the dense bush to the river, we were right on very promising water! For those not familiar with the area, it is hardcore camping. We were lucky enough never to have neighbours during the 5 nights we stayed there and had the place all to ourselves. We had monkeys around every afternoon, but there are not interested in wading boots. We were also lucky enough to have several genet visits and saw and heard fish eagles every day.

We fished from about 9am till 12 and again from about 5pm till 7. We fished fast shallow rapids as well as deeper slower runs, mostly using various short line nymphing techniques. We simply had no time to fish the still pools. We caught Smallmouth and largemouth yellows as well as the odd muddy. Most fish were in the 40 to 50 cm range. The largest was a smallmouth of 52 cm, caught by my youngest son, Daniel. (Of course he rubbed salt in all his old mans wounds!) Generally we got bigger fish than previous years, I think because we fished more slow deep water than before.
