Good for you if you can lift a 5kg monster and 3 kilos of snot that trail your dropper 20 metres into the current.

80% of the fish I have caught in the last two weeks have all made an effort to get as much snot around them as possible.

Interesting point, but I haven't seen anyone 'advocating' tippets. I had a 4X tippet on because I was expecting to find smaller fish on the day. But I doubt a 2X or 3X would have shortened the fight by any considerable amount with a fish of this size.

    The 4X stood the test!

I blanked, but I learnt a wack from Ian, I can really recommend going on a guided trip with him, he is really good.

But, I can tell you, it is superhard work if you are not used to it...I was casting for about 8hrs, ave of 20m...I did quite well as I managed to present about an inch or two from the target zones..but it wwas not to be hey...

My body is so stiff today...hard work man...I will definately go and do it again hey...

Scythe and Byron suggested to use thicker tippet next time.

My question in the first place was and is to determine where do u draw the line between hooking and landing a fish quickly using thicker tippet and not scaring the whole lot fishing 4-5X.Any conditions.

    Congrats Graham!

That is truly a nice fish and from where I was standing that looked like a monster

As for tippet size I just want to say the at the end of the day it's about you,
your tackle your confidence and the fish.

Very nice fish Graham! Thats definitely one to remember

As far as the tippet thing goes, I agree with you and skerpieon. Fish with what you comfortable with (within the boundaries conserving the fish obviously) and I doubt whether stepping up your tippet would have made a difference anyways. Nice one
