You are so right Grant. My PB came out of "desperation", the other 2 f/f had 50 and 20 each by lunch. I had 2 . At lunch I changed all my flies and fished a stream that I had been told was unproductive, First cast a 100mm yellow. Second cast one of around 200m.
Third cast against the reeds, my PB of around 3.5 kg's. After taking the pics single handed I had a smoke to try and calm cown the adrenelin.
Next cast to the the same reeds and my all time PB, 5.3 kg's of smallmouth,
P.S. Ferdie ended the day with 100 +, Drik with around 60 , and me? around 25. But only 2 of those fish counted. My 2 x PB,'s

If your PB was in Winter I would guess around 3kg. It's very difficult to judge without a pic.
As you know our yellows ( like our SWAMBO's ) tend to put weight on in winter,

I'm not sure if there is a formula for calculating weight from length. Some short yellows have been really heavy and damn wide. Be interesting to see if anyone knows more. Their shape seems to vary quite a bit.

Let's see a pic of that 5Kg fish. When was this, this past weekend ? Didn't know the fish were moving that well yet.

Oh wait, Dirk, then your Talking BothaVille and it was last year or the year before. And you could only get a 5Kg fish ? Eish !

Let's see a snap of that fish.
