You would need to refer to data for the previous days.
40 cubes for a day is not enough to make a major difference in the amount of rock snot.
Ideally right now one would want 80 cubes or more for a couple of days.
Below is a summary of the flow rate data at Goose Bay Canyon. Does anyone know if the flow rate increases would have been enough to flush the rock snot?

A good ''anema'' (flood) is the ask, from all the yellow fundi's.

It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

Originally I hated the stuff but it really is a blessing in disguise - food, shelter, water clarity, oxygenation. Biggest pro is it discourages anglers from fishing the shallows at this stage of the year.
DWAF co-operates with the canoeist's by letting out water due to the high profile of their event. Some fly fishing events get better treatment from DWAF with far fewer participants and a far smaller marketing footprint, so I hardly think we can complain. Take the Bells Christiana event for example where DWAF really came to the party.
Check your knots!
Here is a quick rocksnot tip for all. When you find a likely spot at the bottom or top of a rapid etc. where you will normally fish but can't because of rocksnot, do the following. Just pull the bloody stuff of the rocks in the water and clear an area big enough to fish in. The rocksnot will wash away down the river. You will find that rocksnot doesn't realy travel through water but stay stationary on a rock. So clear a nice area of rocksnot - go have a beer and a cigarette and come back to the spot after an hour or so. Be carefull however in that sometimes the yellows would use the channels between rocksnot to spawn in. When you clear an area make absolutely sure that it is not a likely spawning area as the rocksnot and spawning fish occur at about the same time during the year.
Sorry, just to add to that. I have seen guys fishing a small area and get stuck on exactly the same piece of rocksnot over and over - just remove it!
Good day all.
Where would one find these flow rates and what will be an appropriate station to use if one will be fishing a venue like ben joh?
Go to:
http://www.dwaf.gov.za/
click on Dams, Flows and Floods in the left hand side navigation bar.
Click on Real time
Click on Vaal at Goose Bay Canyon
Click on data
That should be OK for Ben Joh
Hi
Just make this your favourite:
http://www.dwaf.gov.za/Hydrology/rtmain.aspx
Works well to cross reference between Vaaldam outflow, Goose Bay & Schoemans. Then just to make sure go to http://www.reservoir.co.za/flow.htm and check the Barrage data for that week.
