Poxy Buzzers For Yellows?????

I would like to know if anyone have had some success with Poxy Buzzers on the Vaal?

I just thought that they are slim line and would go nicely through the water coloum and seeing that they are covered with Epoxy I thought that it would be a tough little fly and wouldnt come un-done over the rocks?

Would the same one's that work for Trout work for Yellows?

How would one fish them? Dry & Dropper or like Nymphs in NZ Style ?

What colours would suit the Vaal?

I tied a few and will post it through the day....

Any advice or info would be great!

I used to fish epoxy buzzers on the Vaal almost exclusively a few years ago, they were excellent fish takers and takes were always really aggressive! (Can't for the life of me think why I stopped fishing them now actually) My personal best is on a yellow and black size 8 epoxy buzzer. I only used to fish NZ style then so I used them as the dropper on the rig and it performed beautifully.

Because they so streamlined you can fish them small and still get them deep which is a real bonus. Surprisingly I got most fish on quite large flies, size 6 and 8. The colour that performed best for me was a yellow thorax, black slim abdomen with silver wire as ribbing. If I get time I will try and tie one up and post a pic.

Hope this helps a bit, tie some up and let us know how they perform. I will be really interested to see if they work as well as I remember.

I think they hit that fly mostly because of the attractor factor.

Olives work well enough, as do browns and occasionally a red brown will work. When you have a midge hatch moving or even just fished as an attractor the Disco midge with a splash of Sally Hansens or even a thin coat of Epoxy always works well.

I'm sure Flybum will have some interresting views on fishing buzzers in summer.

In last months SA Flyfing Mag, they had a SBS on how to ty a poxy buzzer. I tied a few on a #14 and they look nogal lekker. IMHO - I would fish it as the dropper on a dry and dropper rig during a hatch. Should work awesome!

Those look really good, especially the right and the left one! Think about adding a couple of strands of white antron at the head of the fly too for a bit of variation.

They work very well and I fish them as my top dropper on a three fly rig instead on the usual brassie type options. As CJ has said they also work well under a dry during a hatch or early in the evening. I've never tried them in sizes bigger than a #12 scud

I would however also add a bright yellow "wang" by means of a yellow biot or a white biot colored with a yellow marker.
