    Nah...I never bait up at the waters edge. Always keep my tackle and bait box at or close to the high water mark. Some beaches have very compact sand and the thinner the sand spike, the easier it is to drive it into the sand. I can see this contraption breaking on my first outing. I also prefer a flexible sand spike. I've seen too many rods going to ground, and for this reason there is simply nothing to beat a spring-steel spike.

    I agree with you about the flexible spike. I like the baitboard though.
