Default Cederberg, Western Cape Yellow fish

In these holidays i am going to sandrift in the cederberg. There is a small river\stream (i think its called the Dwarsriver) I haven't been there in years and all i remember catch is smallmouth bass and yellowfish. I know how to catch bass on fly but i have never tried to catch yellow fish.

    So:

What kind of yellows do you get in the cederberg?
On my 5 weight what kind of line and leader will i need?
    What flies must i use?
I heard somewhere that people use more than one fly how do you do it?

Don't worry i will release all of them.

    Cheers

    Clanwilliam Yellows.

I was at Sanddrift last year. Facing the campsite, to your left, upstream you'll find plenty of bass. I caught loads on a dragon fly imitation. Didn't have time to try the river down streams. Apparently that's where the yellows hold.

5 wt should be fine. Standard 9ft 5x tapered leader. Flies...plenty Copper John, Flashback nymphs, Czech style flies.

you can fish more than 1 fly by tying a 3 turn water knot, by tying this you can fish 1 dry and a nymph, either the dry on the point or on the dropper
have a look at total fly fisher, they have a video section with knots and how to tie flies
    good luck with the yellows

I was there in December and caught a couple of Clan William Yellows in the pool below the bridge. Problem is the youngsters from the campsite were pulling them in faster with Viennas!!!!! So I can only assume that any fly would work.
    Enjoy.

    Hi Sabastiaan

I was there at the end of Feb. We caught a lot of small yellows could be either Clan Williams or Saw fins.

We caught some in front of the camping site in the flowing water. Weighted nymphs produced the best results. Size 12-16 dark PTN en GRH.

We fished the section between the maalgat and the camping site there are some awesome streches. The section below Maalgat also produced some fish.

In the deeper sections you need to get your flies down fast end give it some action.

    Good luck and enjoy.

Better bet is to go to John at 'Upstream', (next to the Elzet factory in Plustead/Wynberg area) as Freddies FF section has gone to the dogs. Have fun!
    Around the steel no tortur'd worm shall twine, No blood of living insect stain my line;
Let me, less cruel, cast feather'd hook, With pliant rod athwart the pebbled brook,
Silent along the mazy margin stray, And with fur-wrought fly delude the prey
