Fish Finder for Inflatable Pontoon

So what did your Lowrance X47 go for? If anyone gets hold of a fishfinder which is decent let me know.. I still need to get one! And soon!!

Just to further the selection, I have used a Lowrance X47 on my inflatable for the Vaal for over 5 yrs and have had no problems with it, I don't how guys fish for largies in the winter without one, if you can't follow the channel you are wasting your time. The unit is in the background of the pic (simply velcro attaches it to the bench seat, transducer is attached to the trolling motor with a large hose clamp. Attached another photo with a clearer pic of the mounting, and with the intended target not the pesky bycatch

Asking as a complete techno-moran, what should one look out for in a freshwater fishfinder?

Hi Stephan,

Your question is subjective to personal choice really.

Personally I want it to convey depth and temp.Any sudden drop off or boulder or ledge or interesting feature,etc I mark on my gps and fish it on the way back or next time.Other than that I can't see the need of a "fish" finder.

Was a couple of seasons ago, drew a blank last winter although I only went out twice. Water did not look nice. I still prefer the boga for handling Largies, as long as you don't lift the fish out the water with it hanging like a pig carcass. I don't weigh fish with it, and bought a large carp weigh bag a couple of years ago after catching my biggest largie, and not weighing it (I wasn't prepared to hang it from the boga). Still have not used it in anger! One day.

The Lowrance cost me less that R1000 a few years back, they also make a cheaper version called the Eagle (made in Mexico). I personally want water temp on a sounder, and when comparing brands of similar price, go for the one with more pixels (better resolution). I have a Garmin on my big boat and am very happy with it.

Anyone got the Garmin 160C GPS at all... and what do you think of it?

In the pecs of the 160C it says
•Water temperature log and graph: yes
•Water temperature sensor included: no

Does this mean you can log the water temp, but the unit cant read the water temp?
