    Hummingbird ... they're pretty tough ... and does the basic job pretty well ... side imaging sonar and so forth you can try out at your own leisure

    Ryan did you come to any sort of conclusion between the two? any tips on how one mounts it to the Heron?

    Thanks guys, this sound like a very decent option. Will look into it. Anyone else have some advice on other options?

    Stephen, Im still waiting for a reply from that herp with regards to the Green water snakes. so in the mean time i mailed Marius Burger the presenter on Groen.... very clued up doctor in Herpetology, they have replied saying he is on a trip and will get back to me in the next couple of weeks, will let you know.

    Just to further the selection, I have used a Lowrance X47 on my inflatable for the Vaal for over 5 yrs and have had no problems with it, I don't how guys fish for largies in the winter without one, if you can't follow the channel you are wasting your time. The unit is in the background of the pic (simply velcro attaches it to the bench seat, transducer is attached to the trolling motor with a large hose clamp. Attached another photo with a clearer pic of the mounting, and with the intended target not the pesky bycatch
