I picked up the Garmin Echo 150 for R1100 at the Mias Sale today which I thought was a fantastic price.
It is the new range that has replaced the Garmin Fishfinder 140.
Will let you all know how it goes once its been for a test run.

I suppose it's about time I start looking for a fishfinder for my Fishing kayak. A bit difficult to find drop offs and things 20m down in the sea by sight.
Is it worth getting off Gumtree?
An honest fisherman is a pretty uninteresting person.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and not only is he hungry but broke for the rest of his life as well.
To revive an old thread, this looks like fun. Castable, from the bank or your boat, and works off your smartphone.

my son and i discussed this one the other day, super ideal for kickboats/pontoons than small boats. i gave it the thumps up because you dont need a rod but a hand line to cast/throw it into the water. aslo because you are not that mobile on a kickboat its a time saver tosing the ball 360 degrees to scan the area quickly and leaving it transducer in place to mark the spot like a marker buoy. the only worring thing was battery time (cell and finder)
