Excuse the ignorance, but where is the river, and which portion do you intend to fish?
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

It's in the Natal Midlands the river that feeds Midmar dam.

I know that below Midmar dam, there is Natal scalies.

So there should be above, the inlet as well.

I know of an angler that fishes below the Howick fall, for Natal scalies.

So there are good fishing to be had.

My wife's cousins have farms around Howick and over the years I've caught lots of scalies in the local rivers/streams. However right close in on Howick quite a bit of pollution and ne'er-do-wells loitering (like myself..)

Was in Howick for a day over the last long weekend and notice that the river was quite polluted.. Its a shame that our rivers end up like that.. Would be nice if we could stop off on the way home after a long hard days work and just throw a fly or 2 into the stram that flows thro the town and catch some fish...

    That would be ideal.
