Braided loops are fine for light freshwater applications but not sure I would use them in your situation.
Hi guys Im rigging a SW 12# outfit and I want my min breaking strain to be 50lbs. I have some 100lb braid backing, Rio Leviathan (70 lb core) and then straight Flouro 60lb.
CAN I use braided loop connections (fly line to backing) ?
What is the breaking strain?
I bought some 9 to 14wt ones. will attach a pic later. Cant seem to find a rating on ANY (as far as breaking strain)
thanks again,
sorry for flooding this forum with inquiries lately.

braid... They're saltwater loops. Not freshwater.

Depending on the breaking strain/strength, a braided mono loop on your flyline shouldn't be a problem. If your backing is braid (not dacron) and you want to connect the braid to the braided mono loop, I'd recommend you use a cats paw knot. Its not that difficult to tie and is really strong. The trick is putting a knot or loop in braid (not dacron) must be done very very carefully!! I'd recommend a splice as opposed to a knot. Tanaka splice will do the business nicely.

Use a bimini twist on your braid side, you get a loop and I'm yet to see a bimini slip on braid if it is done properly.
Braided loops all the way dude, if you nail knot them properly to the fly line, you can pull hard on them, a mate got hooked up to a rock on his leviathan off a ledge in mosambique, with 50lb loops on the 68lb leviathan core, he ha to pull so hard to get free the leviathan parted on on the main line, the loops held out.
ps : As rory said, cat's paw the braided loop to the braid ... double up on it if you like, just make sure you seat it properly so that the weight is equally held by both strands of braid on the loop and that it's not just hanging off the one fibre.
