Lilly Dale is great and Christiaana Spa has a hotel as well if you want to stay there.

Lilly dale is a great choice but the fishing can be very difficult at times

You can also look to stay in Kimberly and then travel out to different spots around there on the Vall and Riet rivers.

Marrick Safari is a game farm on the vaal river that can be nice to visit

Matanu (never been there - fishing near by)

River side country club and caravan park (on the riet river)

Broad water is another option (only heard about, looking to try)

Chat to NC Bass, he has plenty info on this area.

I have also sent you a PM

Let us know what you decide and how it goes

Lillydale very nice, pool for kids, you can go on gamedrives and chalets is nice set-up. Fishing can be great.

Down side is that it is pricey seeing that it is part of the National Parks Board. You pay basic price to enter park (think Wild Card works), pay per night and need to pay for fishing.

Hey Guys - Just bumping this thread.

I plan on heading down to the Lower Vaal for two weeks and wanted to ask if anyone has fished recently, or if they knew of any good camping spots?

    Thanks very much

    Best

Not sure about the fishing condition of Bloemhof dam, having been almost empty and filled up with the rain.
But there where 2 Cape Town brothers that would do a trip every year to Bloemhof dam.
    Bloemhof dam is very shallow.
The carp would cruise these flats, and they walked and stalked the flats for the carp as you would do for bonefish.
According to them, this was the most amazing fishing.
SUPER spooky fish, that runs you far into your backing.
The water would be very clear, for most part, so you would be doing sight fishing.

Might be worth to check it out. the fish stocks could be low due to the drought/low dam levels.
But let us know if you do stop there.

Thanks Korrie - That sounds like a heap of fun. I have two weeks off - So I want to travel and see some amazing places, Bloemhof is probably the furthest up the system I would start fishing, hoping to make my way to Preiska.
