    Smashing

If you do tie them make sure the gape is nice and clear.

    Technique would be:
*Make sure fish are there and feeding up.
*Use a tuck cast to smack the fly, not the whole line on the water.
    *Leave to drift, repeat.
*At times long casts are required.
*Obviously your wading has to be very very stealthy.
*You can continue with this well into the evening.

    This fly produced on Saturday.

Basically an Al's Diver (www.flyangleronline.com) tied on a no8 Stevenson hook with a natural rabbit tail, you can add cactus chenille in the body. It's big; looks like a small bird, actually it casts like a small bird

Got 2 SMYF waiting for the 5kg+ LMYF to take.

Getting back to less bird like patterns... had an excellent evening on the Vaal about ten days ago. Fished the faster water just above a rapid with an EHC (14) and managed to land a few reasonable SMs. Fishing partner decided to to get creative with a a parachute adams (18) - also to great effect. We were still getting takes beyond dusk. Lovely stuff. The only thing is - keep checking your leader as there is no way you can see what 'knots' may develop when casting into the darkness.....

I searched and this is about the closest I get to a thread for yellows on dry.

Just got back from one of the best days I've had! My line was in the water for a total of about 1hr. The rest of the 5 hours were spent sitting, watching and questioning Maximum, on how, where, why etc, etc, what he was doing , whilst fishing for SM with dries.

I have learned more about dry's for yellows and f/f in general in one session than I would have in a month of Sundays.

Thanks very, very much Mike. You are a true scholar and a gentleman.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

That man knows his stuff! He has given me great advice on yellowfish in the past.
