I will be visiting the Vic Falls over Easter and staying on the Zimbawe side of the river, but I am having a real problem linking with someone there who can help me do a bit of fly fishing for Tiger. Can anyone point me in the right direction or suggest a contact?

Hi David
I found this website. They seem to cover allot of activities at Vic Falls. Lower down is the section on Fly Fishing.

A couple of years ago I was on business at Vic Falls and the guest services at the hotel hooked me up with one of the sunset cruise operators. They took me up the river for the morning. Great fun, hooked several tigers in the rapids someway upstream from the boat club. Also caught Nembwe from the bank just above the falls. Bit overgrown best suited to spinning.
I fished the area a couple of years ago, but didnt have much success. Crossed over the border into Botswana, and camped at Kasane. The fishing was unbelievable! I fished from a small boat, as well as walking the rapids and the bank.(Beware of huge crocs... saw a large dog get taken while i was fishing) Caught numerous good sized tigers and a few bream. Most fun was catchin tiny tigers on a 5 weight in the rapids. Nearly every cast produced a 300gram baby tiger... but awesome fun. It might be worth emailing the guys at the GARDEN LODGE, to see what the current conditions are like.
Any update on contacts here, as I'm doing the same in December and need names of reputable operators in the Vic Falls area?
i used Angle Zambia when i was up there acouple of years ago. they're at

Are these chaps still in business? My e-mails keep bouncing back.
I fished the area a couple of times. Its relatively safe to wade above the falls on the Zambezi. You can literaly just park next to the river and start fishing. I was told that there is no big crocs or hipos close to the falls. I fished that stretch for a couple of days and only sough a couple of very small crocs. Big ones should probably be around but the locals seem to think the stretch of river is "safe". Fishing wise I would much rather do the small drive to Kasane in Botswana. There you can fish the Kasai, Chobe and Zambezi. Chobe Safari lodge has great boates and a guide named Niven that I rate very high as far as finding the fish. Not an expert on fly fishing, but he knows where the fish are to be found. Google chobe safari lodge, they have a good website and their fees are quite ok. Enjoy the fishing, it sometimes is pretty spectacular up there! In my opinion the stretch of river Niven operates in, is probably one of the most beautifull settings in Africa!
