Wait till you've taken your first over the head dunk in frezing water ... suddenly the urge to hold that 5KG LM becomes greatly diminished.

Ag who am I trying to kid...

It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

Scythe, you mentioned 18ft leaders in another post elsewhere on the forum. Please can you explain the reasoning behind using such a long leader for winter LM?

I'd imagine you'd be sight fishing Herman, so the long leader would help in that case.

Yes, LM are weary buggers and a line splash will send them packing when the viz is good. Also you will be fishing in water 2M - 6M deep. And 'twixt casting to LM you will also be casting dries...

Only kidding... I still need to pick your brain lots before I can make statements like that

A friend of a relative was fishing yellows last week and apparently klapped a good few LM in the stiller water. +- 3kg's, using a single dry fly setup.
Any tips as to what D.flies work better than others?
I didn't speak to the guy personally so I couldn't see what he was using.
Why haven't I seen any guys fishing dries for LM in the still water over the last 4 weeks i've been there?
    Is it a seasonal thing?

    Cheers,

    Scythe, thanks for the info.
Clint, I could not see 18ft before without my prescription glasses which I don't fish with 'cos they aint polarized, so I wore polarized sun glasses and anything further than 10m was a bit blurry.
I picked up my prescription polarized sunglasses 30 minutes ago
At least now I will be able to see who those are that are fishing around me and be able to greet those that I know
Look out LM's, come end May let the battle begin.
