...even billfish have washed up dead on the beaches:

The billfish was injured / attacked by a pod of dolphins that had been hanging around the area for a few months. Was still alive when it was washed up, but to badly injured.

Not sure what caused the abalone deaths shells are still washing up on the beaches.

Mike.....this was quite a while ago.....thet experts say the marlin was an isolated incicdent(fluke)and the perlemoen suffered from an almost red tide or similar exposure......wonder though how come the crayfish didn't suffer aswell
