    Default Craft Fur Minnow SBS

Here's my first attempt at a SBS for this forum.

This is a generic baitfish pattern that can be coloured or modified to suit what ever you are trying to imitate. I tied them specifically for largies but tied in various colours and sizes they should work well for any predatory fish.

Once you get used to tying them they are quick and easy. The craft fur takes permanent marker really well.

Materials that I used for this are

    Hook: Gama BS10 #4
Eyes: Hairline Psudo Eyes - Medium
    Crystal Flash: Rootbeer
Body: White craft fur, Super UV flash
Permanent markers - colours to match baitfish
    Thread: Grey
    Mono Weedguard: 16.5 kg Maxima

    Step 1

Lay a thread base and tie in dumbell eyes about 5mm from the hook eye. Secure with figure of 8 wraps. I like to add a drop of superglue .

    Step 2

Starting about half way down the hook shank, tie in a underbody/belly using the super UV flash. Tie it in on the bottom and sides of the hook shank working towards the front.

    Step 3

Tie in about 5 strands of crystal flash on either side of the hook shank. Make them 2-3 times longer than the hook shank, you can trim them shorter at a later stage if you need to.

    Step 4

Cut a clump of craft fur around the same length as the crystal flash. Remove the under fur and tie in on the top and sides of the hook shank.

    Step 5

Now using either a dubbing loop or split thread (I prefer using a split thread), make a dubbing brush from craft fur with a little of the UV flash added to it.

    Step 6

Wrap this dubbing brush around the shank and around the eyes, pulling the fur towards the back of the fly as you wrap to try avoid trapping any of it.

    Step 7

Tie in your weed guard and whip finish your fly.

    Step 8

Remove from the vice and take an old comb and brush out the fly to free any of the fur that has been trapped. Then trim to shape and go mad with your marker pens.

Very nice Andrew! Grant just needs to add it to the list.

Thanks Darryl, although after I posted it I realized that I probably should have used a blue background.
