    thank you all for your help! i really appreciate it!

    (and that fly isn't mine, it's one i found off the net and is in my "flies to tie" folder)

    i think variations of that can also work in the vaal...

    ya it should be, also heard the 'copper wire' rule. think it might have been a rule modification for one of the championships. just looked at the latest FIPS RULE FOR 2011 (http://www.flyfishaustralia.com.au/d...srules2011.pdf ) and nothing is said about copper wire on flies.

    but you never know hey..

    The rules says, something about exposed weight. the copper wire is for weighting the flies. once epoxied, the wire is not "exposed".
