sunday was a tough day indeed
bushveld scalies - worth the blood, sweat and tears
I was an absolute WOOSY and @rse. :tan
When I got there the barbel were going beserk right next to the bank, with one particular one rummaging big time amongst the debris about 3 meters off the bank.
When it surfaced properly and I saw the whiskers 20 - 30 cm's apart, I chickened out. No ways I was throwing a LM lure at that thing on a 5# Scott with 5.5 kg leader. :frown:
I must have got soft lately.:tan

Fished Raaswater today. Bled like a pig. No yellows! Not even a bite. The flow was quite high. There was a massive hatch of mayflies at around 15h00. Landed a small barbel of around 2kg. On my way back to the bakkie I saw a monster barbel. At least 15kg. Quickly snipped my leader to about 3ft length, tied on a LM fly. First cast. BAM! What a fight. Needless to say I did not land the fish but it gave me a good 15min fight. At some stage I thought my 5wt TFO wa going to snap, then a while later I thought my arm was going to snap. But in the end the leader did snap.
Hi Herman, just read your post then I saw this on Flyloops - I am not saying or implying any thing it was just amusing the order that I read it
